Tri-Cities – September 6, 2006 – The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation, the nation’s largest private source of funding for breast
cancer research and community-based outreach programs is accepting
applications to award four-year undergraduate scholarships to qualified
students who lost a parent to breast cancer.
The Komen Foundation College Scholarship Award helps students cover the
costs of tuition, books, fees and on-campus room and board. The
scholarship is specifically intended to help those qualified students
who would otherwise find attending college to be a significant financial
burden, due to the loss of a parent to breast cancer.
The Komen Foundation College Scholarship Award recipients are selected
based on scholastic achievement, community service and participation,
financial need, and demonstrated leadership potential.
“Breast cancer is a disease that encompasses the entire family. Losing a
parent to breast cancer can significantly impact a student’s ability to
continue, or even begin, a college career. This scholarship program is a
way to help qualified students to realize their dreams of higher
education,” said Betty DeVinney of the Komen Tri-Cities Affiliate.
Basic information about the Komen Foundation Scholarship Award program
and application forms are available by contacting Katie Yates at

condition of being chosen for a scholarship.
A
total of seven scholarships will be awarded. Announcement of the
scholarship awards will be made by the Komen Foundation on March 31,
2007.
